The History ofSpices & Tea
Two threads, four thousand years old, woven into everything we make today.
History of Indian Masala
Spice was India’s first export, and its most valuable one.
Masala, meaning “spice blend,” originated over four thousand years ago in the Indus Valley, prized as much for flavour as for Ayurvedic healing. By 1000 BCE, India had become the world’s primary source for black pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom, spices so valuable they were called “liquid gold.”
That demand built the Silk Road and the maritime spice routes, connecting India to Egypt, Rome, and eventually all of Europe. The intense hunger for Indian masalas shaped global economies, fuelled the Age of Discovery, and redrew world maps. Today, these ancient blends remain India’s greatest cultural export, flavouring kitchens across every continent.

History of Wellness Tea
Brewed for healing, long before it was brewed for taste.
The history of wellness in India reaches back over five thousand years to Ayurveda, where herbs were brewed into healing infusions believed to restore balance in the body, valued first for their role in daily wellbeing.
A Paradigm Shift
Today’s generation sees tea and spices not just as kitchen staples, but as everyday wellness essentials. There is a conscious move away from highly processed drinks and artificial supplements, toward clean, functional, natural products that genuinely support how people live. Wellness tea has become a mindful ritual, meant for energy, for calm, for focus, while traditional spices are being rediscovered as what they always were: powerful, plant-based staples of a good kitchen.
This generation is willing to pay for products that are authentic, transparent, and rooted in something real. For them, tea and spices are no longer occasional remedies, but intentional choices, a small, daily act of living well.

The Reality of the Industry Today
The Indian tea and spice industry is vast, historic, and globally respected, yet the reality behind it is fragmented and inconsistent. Quality varies from batch to batch, and the market is often flooded with mass-produced products that prioritise volume and low cost over purity.
Adulteration, artificial colouring, harmful chemical preservatives, and low-grade fillers have become common enough that consumers are often left unsure of what they’re actually consuming.
Recent reports have found artificial materials, including carcinogenic dyes and toxic chemical essences, in popular spice and tea brands, leading to international recalls.
In an industry built on centuries of heritage, the real challenge today isn’t sourcing, it’s trust. Rebuilding it takes transparency, real quality control, and sourcing that can actually be traced back to where it began. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
